Nobel Prize in Economics

The Nobel Prize in Economics will be awarded on Monday, October 10. Stop by in the Economics Department office to participate in our pool (at $5 an entry, you can't afford not to play!).

Somewhere out there there must be a futures market on the Nobel Prize winner, but I haven't been able to find it. Here's a website that had a market last year. In this market, a futures contract on Joe Blow pays $100 if Blow wins the prize. The last price quotes from last year were:

Edward C. Prescott $63.35

Edmond Malinvaud $13.89

Edmund S. Phelps $29.92

Eugene F. Fama $29.59

Gordon Tullock $14.74

Hans-Werner Sinn $3.93

Maurice Obstfeld $9.19

N. Gregory Mankiw $3.83

Oliver E. Williamson $30.22

Paul Krugman $32.66

Robert J. Barro $46.28

Victoria Chick $10.21

The market correctly forecast one of the winners -- Ed Prescott -- but the other, Finn Kydland, was not on the list.
